Roller Skate For The JDRF

jdrf_team_logoHave you noticed what all the fundraising events tend to offer?

Walks. Bike rides. Marathons.

Those activities can be rewarding, and they all do bring in a lot of money for their causes. Nobody is here to argue that. What I’m saying is Roller Skating offers all the same reward with a hell of a lot more fun!

Go to any average skating rink. You’ll see skaters of all ages and skill levels. There will be kids racing each other while adults pull along a rail. There will be couples skating hand in hand while a parent will be in the middle of the floor introducing their kids to skating. There will be birthday parties, and people joking about how they used to skate backwards but wouldn’t dare now. You’ll find any array of fun in a skating rink!

We are working to bring that unique family friendly and fun environment towards a higher purpose.

The Skate For Diabetes is about bringing people together for fun, nostalgia, and challenges. You’ll build memories to last a lifetime. We do all this so we can help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in their mission seeking the cure of Type 1 Diabetes.

Let’s turn to the professionals at the JDRF so you know why this is so important.

What is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that impacts millions of people around the world.

The disease occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas, which produce insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Without insulin, glucose from food stays in the blood, where it can cause serious damage to all of the body’s organs.

Type 1 diabetes strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

Why Do We Partner With Team JDRF?

Team JDRF to Cure Diabetes campaigns and events give you the chance to raise money for JDRF—the leading global organization funding T1D research—while doing something you love. Your participation will help accelerate progress toward improving lives and curing T1D. Together, we can create a world without T1D.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners and is the only organization with the scientific resources, regulatory influence, and a working plan to end T1D.

As successful as JDRF has been, there is a still a large gap between where we are now and what we need to deliver life-changing therapies in the future. JDRF funds more than $100 million in T1D research each year, and has $530 million currently at work in programs around the world. But it is not enough.

Team JDRF raises money that allows us to direct even more funding toward T1D research.

I hope you see the importance of raising money for the JDRF.

Join us on Saturday, September 6th from 5 pm to 8 pm at The Silver Star Skate Center in Mattoon, IL for our 2nd Annual Skate For Diabetes!
